Studying English abroad can be quite daunting. To lighten the burden, many ESL schools have also become boarding schools. In this way, students no longer have to worry about lodging as the school provides it, even in ways supportive of the student’s English studies.
In 3D Academy, there are two kinds of accommodation. A student can opt to stay in the school dormitory, which is in the same building as the school, or book in a hotel affiliated to the school.
What can students find inside the school dormitory?
Before you get to the rooms, you will have to pass through the school cafeteria. The place is spacious and cozy. However, this cafeteria is not only a place where students can dine but also where they can study when it’s not mealtime. For me, it’s a good study area when you don’t want to be studying inside your room (where temptation to sleep instead is high). Also, every Thursday, students gather here to watch an English movie after class hours.
A glass door at the rear of the restaurant serves as gateway to the rooms. The rooms are of three types: single, double and triple room, each referring to the number of persons the room can accommodate. Aside from the bed(s) and a bathroom equipped with a Hot & Cold Shower, the following furniture and appliances are also found inside the room: Cable TV, Wardrobe, Refrigerator, Air Conditioner and Desk.
(Unfortunately, I couldn’t get inside any room to take pictures as they were all occupied when I came there. So, I’ll just post them as soon as I can.)
As for the study rooms, the school currently offers three options for the students: the cafeteria (8:00am-12:00mn), library (24 hours) and speech lab (7:00am-12mn). The speech lab is also where various school events take place, such as graduation ceremony and Halloween Party. For students interested in Zumba and Yoga, they also have such sessions in this place.
Left to right: 1) Lounging area at the terrace; 2) Table tennis; 3) Lounging area near the cafeteria; 4) Table soccer
For the students’ safety and to support them in their English studies, the school has set a curfew: 11pm from Sunday to Thursday; 1am on Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays. But if a student doesn’t want to be bound by the dormitory rules, especially by the curfew, the school gives the option of booking a room in an affiliated hotel nearby (just a few minutes across the school!), as mentioned earlier.
