What the title tells you is indeed possible in such a place as Cebu.
Currently, Cebu is a growing hub of ESL schools. An internet site called ESL Cebu has listed over 60 of these schools in the province. Each of these schools are facilitated by owners of different nationalities–Korean, Japanese and Americans among others. What could be the possible reasons for the continued existence of these schools?
Many students who are yet beginning in their English studies would find it daunting to study English in a native English-speaking country due to difficulty in coping up with the slang words and ambiguous accent of the native speakers. Because Filipino teachers are capable of good pronunciation and clear accent, students find it easier to learn English. Also, the positive mindset and friendly atmosphere many Filipino teachers exhibit help shy and insecure students become comfortable learning English inside the classroom.
Studying English in the Philippines is one-third or one-fourth the price of studying it in Canada, Australia, or the United States. This is the most common reason why many foreign students opt to study English in the Philippines; to them, it is cost-effective as they can get quality education at a relatively lower cost.
Cebu is known for its beautiful white-sand beaches. A lot of beach resorts have emerged in many areas in the province, particularly in Lapu-lapu City (which is only about 30 minutes away from Cebu City). Besides that, it is near to several other fascinating islands such as Bohol (known for its Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier, one of the smallest known primates in the world) and Bantayan (popular for its Ogtong Cave Resort and beautiful beaches of fine white sand and crystal-clear blue water).
In Cebu, convenience is not far from reach as trade and industry are continually growing and developing. Convenience stores (even those operating 24/7 like 7Eleven), coffee shops, shopping malls, restaurants, hospitals, fitness centers, spas and many other establishments are now scattered in many areas in Cebu, especially in Cebu City. Convenience in Cebu also comes with high standard of living which is becoming readily accessible through high-end residences that keep showing up at virtually every corner.
Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Danish, Mongolian, Russian, and Korean are just among many nationalities that have already come to Cebu to study English. And I have witnessed many of them telling about the enjoyment and good memories they have had with their teachers and newly-made friends while learning English in Cebu.
While taking one’s studies seriously is a vital step to academic achievement, learning shouldn’t be limited within the four walls of the classroom, nor should it be handled in a boring, monotonous manner. Learning English in Cebu can be taken to new dimensions–learn it by heart in such a place where you can explore places you’ve never been to and enjoy precious moments in life, all at the same time!
